Losing access to an account you use every day is distressing, especially if the attacker also changed the linked email or phone number. Here's what you can try yourself before asking for help.
Instagram: steps to recover your account
- Try "Forgot password?" from the app or website, using your email, phone or username.
- If the linked email or phone was also changed, use the "Need more help?" option within the recovery flow itself.
- Request a security code through Instagram's official hacked account form.
- Record the verification video if Instagram asks for one, showing the code that appears on screen.
WhatsApp: steps to recover your account
- Reinstall WhatsApp with your number. This invalidates the attacker's session in most cases.
- Verify with the SMS code sent to your number.
- If they turned on two-step verification with a PIN you don't know, WhatsApp lets you regain access without the PIN after 7 days.
- As soon as you're back in, turn on two-step verification yourself with a PIN only you know.
If the platform doesn't respond or things get complicated
- Document every step: screenshots, dates and any responses you receive.
- Prepare the identity documentation platforms usually ask for to verify the account is yours.
- Ask for help if it's been several days with no response or no progress.
With the account recovery service, I handle the whole process through each platform's official channels, and you only pay the full amount if it's actually recovered.
